Phoenix Park is located just west of Dublin City. What you might not know about the park is that it is recognised to be one of the largest enclosed urban park in the world covering an amazing 1,760 acres.
It is all Dublin – and was in a key scene in James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake. Concerts are often held here too.
Within the park itself you’ll find attractive gardens, large sections of grassland and beautiful paths lined with a variety of trees – feel free to roam through any of these!
Dublin zoo can be found here along with the Wellington Monument, the Papal Cross, which was constructed for Pope John Paul II’s visit and the home of the President of Ireland, Áras an Uachtaráin is also found here. The oldest building in the park is Ashtown Castle.
The Phoenix Park Visitor Centre is located beside Ashtown Castle. The Centre provides a coffee shop, restaurant, audio visual shows that’ll keep the whole family happy!
