Kilmainham Gaol is one of the biggest disused gaols in Europe. Situated in Inchicore in Dublin city, it is now one of our greatest National monuments.
The onsite museum provides the prisons fascinating history and tells the tail of Ireland’s path to freedom. An interesting fact that you might not know about the gaol is that the leaders of the 1916 Rising were put to their death here and Eamon de Valera was the last inmate.
On the top floor of the museum you’ll find an art gallery which features sculptures, paintings and jewellery. You can even stand in the yard where the executions of some prisoners took place and or stand in one of its cells.
Your sure to find that the tour is a moving experience and that it offer’s a great insight into Ireland’s troubled history, and all at a great price!
