Location
Although it's a fairly lengthy walk from the centre of Dublin, Days Inn Rathmines is really well connected to the Dublin Bus network. The area of Rathmines itself has a real bustling feel to it as it's basically a village-like suburb thats been swallowed up by the city.
The traffic is very busy on this street during the day but it's nice area to be in if you want to experience the normal day-to-day Dublin. There are loads of shops and offices along the street so you'll see the locals going about their daily business.
Public Transport Links
LUAS Tram - The Luas tram system is definitely the best way to get to this property. From St. Stephens Green you need to catch the green line to the Charlemont stop (2 stops away) and when you get off, walk along Canal Road for about 150 metres. Then, as you turn left onto Rathmines Road you'll see the hotel in front of you, on the right hand side.
Train - There's no train station close to Days Inn Rathmines, so if you're arriving into Dublin's Heuston or Connolly Station, make your way to St. Stephen's Green and hop on the Luas (see above).
Bus - There's no shortage of buses to Rathmines! From the city centre (Fleet St. off O'Connell St.) you can easily catch bus nos. 14, 14A, 15 and 15A and there's a stop right outside the property so it's really handy.
How To Get From The Nearest Airport
There are various different ways to get Days Inn Rathmines from Dublin Airport.
You could catch the Aircoach from outside the arrivals hall - just walk over the pedestrian crossing and you'll see the Aircoach collection point. Get off at Grafton Street (ask the driver to give you a shout if you're not sure) and then make your way down to St. Stephens Green where you can hop on the LUAS (see public transport links above).
Even easier is to catch the Dublin Bus 16A at the airport and get off at the Bleeding Horse pub on Camden Street and you're only about a 10-minute walk down to Lower Rathmines Road. You could also catch the Airlink 747 bus into the city centre and then use the Dublin Bus (see public transport links above) network to get out to Rathmines.
Of course, if you don't fancy using public transport there are loads of taxis available outside the arrivals hall - fare should cost around EUR30.00 to EUR35.00 but as you'd expect it kind of depends on traffic.
How To Get To Dublin's Top Attractions
Between the Dublin Bus services and the Luas tram system (see public transport links above) you're only minutes away from the delights of Dublin, and Days Inn Rathmines is right in the thick of it!
The famous Trinity College (home of the Book of Kells) is a good central point to use for getting around Dublin as well as being a major attraction in its own right.
From College Green (in front of Trinity) head onto Dame Street and as you walk along this route, down to your right you have the maze of streets and alleyways that make up the famous Temple Bar area of Dublin. There are loads of pubs, restaurants and nightclubs in Temple Bar and it is a hive of activity during day and night!
If you continue on to the end of Dame Street (passing the
Olympia Theatre to your right) you'll come to Lord Edward Street where other famous Dublin attractions can be found such as the imposing
Dublin Castle and
City Hall 'The Story of the Capital Exhibition'. You can also make your way across to the
Chester Beatty Library from here as it sits a few streets behind Dublin Castle.
And at the top of Lord Edward Street you'll come to the impressive medieval part of Dublin which is dominated by the spires of Christchurch Cathedral. If you walk onto High Street you can travel back in time to Viking Dublin at the Dvblinia attraction.
When in Dublin it'd be rude not to check out the history of Ireland's most famous beverage so if you carry on down to Thomas Street and then take a left onto Crane Street followed by a right to Market Street - here you'll find the world renowned Guinness Storehouse!
You can reach other famous attractions from Trinity College - from College Green, bear left passing the black railings of Trinity on your left and the
Molly Malone Statue across the street to your right. This'll take you to Nassau Street and at the end of this street you can turn right onto Kildare Street where you'll find the
Heraldic Museum,
Leinster House (home of the government) and the
National Museum.
For a bit of shopping make your way to Grafton Street which is Dublin's main commercial centre and at the top of this street you'll find the St. Stephens Green Shopping Centre. Or walk across O'Connell Bridge to O'Connell Street where more retail outlets await, especially down the pedestrianised Henry Street and Earl North Street.
