Clontarf Castle Hotel is located just outside of Dublin city centre in the quiet and peaceful setting of Clontarf, an area renowned for its historical importance ever since the famous battle that took place there in 1014.
Public Transport Links:
Clontarf Castle Hotel is located close to all public transport amenities. The area is a popular tourist destination as it is located just outside of Dublin’s city centre on Ireland 's eastern seaboard. The hotel is two miles from the city centre.
Rail Connection:
Hueston Intercity Railway Station serves the South and West of Ireland. The No.90 bus departs Hueston every 15 minutes stopping at the city centre and further on at Connolly station. This takes 10 – 15 minutes. You can disembark on the quays. From here, make your way to Lower Abbey Street, located of O' Connell Street, where you can get the No. 130 bus to Clontarf.
Connolly Intercity Railway station serves the North and West of Ireland. The No. 130 bus stops at the station and buses are frequent. You can also catch the DART from the station. The trip to Clontarf takes a few minutes.
Bus Connection:
If you would like to travel by bus from the city centre to Clontarf, the No. 130 bus route leaves Lower Abbey Street, which is located off O' Connell Street and the journey to Castle Avenue in Clontarf takes approximately 50 minutes. Buses are frequent and make a number of stops along the way including Connolly station.
Light Rail Connection:
The hotel is located close to the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) light rail system. From Dublin city centre you can get onboard the DART from the 'Connolly Station' or the 'Tara Street' stop. The DART line will bring you to Clontarf Road station and the hotel is just a 15 minute walk from here.
Unfortunately there is no LUAS tram connection servicing Clontarf.
Best way to get from the nearest airport:
Dublin's International Airport is located just 12km away from the Clontarf Castle Hotel, there are a few options available to you to the hotel.
Unfortunately there is no direct bus to the hotel. There is however an Airlink available from outside the terminal building. This can bring you to Connolly Station. From Connolly Station you can get on the DART, which will bring you to Clontarf DART station or another option is to get the No. 130 bus to the village. The AirLink costs EUR5.00.
If you don't like the idea of the AirLink, there are always taxis waiting outside the terminal building. A taxi will cost EUR20 –EUR30 but is probably the best option.
Ask the driver to take you to the Clontarf Castle Hotel using the following directions:
·Take the M1 towards the city centre.
·At the first set of traffic lights turn left onto Collins Avenue. Continue to the end of the road to a T-junction where it intersects with the Howth Road. Bear left (The Beachcomer Pub is facing you).
·At the second set of traffic lights take a sharp right onto Castle Avenue.
·The entrance to Clontarf Castle Hotel is at the first roundabout on the right hand side.
If you are hiring a car, which is a wise idea if you want to tour County Dublin, use the above directions for the quickest route to the hotel.
Nearby Attractions:
Many attractions surround Clontarf itself including the site of the Battle of Clontarf, the Birth place of Bram Stoker and St. Anne’s Park and Rose Gardens, which are all within walking distance of Clontarf Castle Hotel.
South of the City -
The Casino Marino, the most important neo-classical building in Dublin, which is located on Malahide Road before the junction with Griffith Avenue in Dublin 3. Bus Nos. 103/104/130 from outside the hotel go down Malahide road.
Malahide Castle in Malahide, County Dublin can be reached by the DART train to Malahide.
The James Joyce Tower is a museum devoted to the life and works of Ireland literay great. It is at The Fortyfoot in Sandycove. Get there by taking the DART train from Clontarf Station South to Sandycove.
Take a tour of
Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre, Castle Street in Dalkey. Again take the DART to Dalkey.
City Centre attractions -
Take the DART from Clontarf Road Station or the Bus from outside the hotel to the City centre.
Why not take the Dublin hop – on – hop – off bus tour, which starts and ends at 59 Upper O' Connell Street. It is one of the best ways to see the city and all it has to offer.
Have you an interest in art? Perhaps a visit to the
National Gallery of Ireland in Merrion Square West is what you are looking for. From
Trinity College, walk south onto Nassau Street. Continue on past Dawson and Kildare Streets. Take a right onto upper Merrion Street and the gallery will be to your right.
Visit Trinity College, Irelands oldest University, and see the Book of Kells or The Dublin Experience. Trinity is south of the river near Grafton Street at the bottom of Dame Street.
Shopping:
The best shopping is to be found in the city centre. Take the No 130 bus from outside the hotel.
In the city head to Henry Street, a pedestrian street located off O' Connell Street, has loads of different types of shops. It also has some great shopping centres such as the Ilac Centre – North end of O'Connell Street, between Henry Street and Parnell Street – and the Jervis Centre, which can be found, at the end of Henry Street.
