The building is undoubtedly the most unforgettable aspect of the hotel. The original castle was built in 1172 and was one of the most ancient castles within the Pale and is said to have been erected by Hugh de Lacy. The old castle was taken down in 1835 and a handsome manor put in its place.

This is a real castle complete with grand entrances, peaked roofs and turrets! It is very impressive and you get the impression that it's a real Medieval Castle throughout the building, in spite of the fact that it is an early 19th Century building.
