Getting around Dublin:

Dublin is a great city for ambling around on foot as all the main spots are a stone’s throw from each other and it’s not too heavy on the hills. O’Connell Street, which incidentally is the widest pedestrian street in Europe, is the main place to start if you’re going to pad the hoof to the city’s sites. If you don’t fancy that, or if on the odd occasion that the city sees a drop of rain, then you can hop onto one of the many buses cruising along in the separate lanes. There’s also the Hop on – Hop off Dublin Buses which let you motor around the sites of the city from an open topped double decker.

There is also of course the LUAS tram service which covers much of the urban parts of the city, and the DART electric trains which run along the city’s coastline looking panoramically out onto the Irish Sea, including all towns along the way from the most northern to the most southern suburbs.

If you're after a more direct form of transport such as a taxi then you’ll find these all over the place in and around the city, just keep an eye out for the lit up sign on the roof, but don’t expect much luck flagging them down at evenings or weekends as the demand then is definitely greater than the supply!

Taxis of course are allowed to use the bus lanes so make decent time, but if you’re driving around yourself then chances are you’ll inevitably end up in a number of chock-a-block traffic jams as the congestion in the city is notorious.
